Staff askthreads are occasionally made by newly-promoted operational staff, or moderators/admins who have been nagged asked to make one. They’re a good place to learn more about the people who run the site, from their various favorites to deep introspection about their writings and the site itself.
You can read and ask around and get a feel for the experiences and skills these people have, which can help if you’re thinking of contacting a staff member (about a draft you’d like feedback on, with a question about the site, reporting an issue, etc.) but aren’t sure whom to approach. Alternatively, you can dive a little into the history of the site, especially when reading through the threads made by admins who've been with the site since its early days.
Please be polite when asking questions, and patient when waiting for replies! :)

- Threads in the “Open” category are actively taking questions! Keep in mind not to post too often; if staff notice that you’re spamming up the forum, they’ll let you know.
- Threads in the “Locked” category are closed for all comments! That means no new questions are being accepted at the moment, since the staff member hasn't been answering for awhile, or has retired from staff.
- A staff askthread is locked if the staff member running it has not responded for awhile (about 300 days).
