mostly an awesome SCP
the bit about using mastodons for military purposes sounded a bit goofy, though. especially for the Foundation.
still a good read.
Remember how you felt that it was best that the rip stop at eukaryotic life.
There is a wrinkle.

Protists are single-celled eukaryotes. I wonder what interesting things the rip could develop…
Don't drink the water!
*Just drank a cup of water form a spring located in SCP-561's premises.*
:(
*Goes to induce vomiting*
I've read in various books on ancient mammals that biologists believe, both from the structure of its skull and from evidence of its behaviour, that the dire wolf was significantly less intelligent than modern wolves. Of course it's possible they're wrong about that. On the other hand, I can't help worrying a little about the possible consequences if the personnel who are trying to train dire wolves as guard dogs turn out to have been, shall we say, a trifle over-optimistic…
Personally, I think the mere fact they're trying to train dire wolves shows a bit of over-optimism. You don't get the prefix 'Dire' without there being some reason for earning it. Just being big doesn't cut it.
…Actually, that's pretty much the only reason they're called dire wolves. Remember, excluding 561's effects, the only thing researchers have to base the naming of the extinct species off of is their skeleton and what they can deduce from that. Yeah, there is quite a bit they can guess from there, but attitude is generally not one of those things. Of course, this is also the Foundation. Of course they're optimistic about training them. They just use D-Class personnel as treats treat-givers.
Mm, delicious Class-D's.
Yeah, I need to do some more research for this one. It was one of the first SCPs I made and now I'm like "Dang it. Now my REAL biology knowledge is conflicting!"
I like this one. Problem is, I'm an editor and I like to help. I thought I could make it better! If I overstepped my bounds with the sorta big edit I made, please do tell me. Have a good one! ^_^
This is the kind of shit I eat up. You had me at "A female smilodon in its nature enclosure, resting after a hunting run."
Plus it's pretty excellently written, so I don't even have to feel guilty about upvoting it based on 'SMILODONS <3'.
I especially like the effect of the area; it's not a cookie-cutter lost world, but rather an alteration of offspring. Nice.
