Oh, I completely agree that we'd never willingly harm people in our waking lives, but that even in that case, it doesn't stop us from doing the same while we dream.
For example, last night, in my dreams, I and a small boy, for whatever reason that I can't remember, decided we had to kill a white kitten. So, we started throwing knives at it. I was thinking that this is horrible, the little kitten just staring at us helplessly, as my poor aim would just injure it, usually, and I'd fetch the knives for another toss. It was horrendous. I felt lousy for doing it. But I didn't stop. And the moment I woke up, I was fine, no kittens were harmed, I'm refreshed for another day.
And so, even though I'd never want to harm an innocent kitten, I did. Even though if I, for whatever reason, had to kill a kitten, I'd choose a method that was more humane and efficient than throwing knives, I did.
It's a dream. It doesn't matter. Heck, I probably only remembered this dream because I could mention it as a counterexample today. Who knows what we're up to in all the dreams we forget? The point is, it's okay. All the nonsensical unsettling activities that occur in our dreams, it's okay.
And that's why the dream recorder can get away with its destruction.
Sleep well.
