I was thinking a Netflix Tv show based on the SCP foundation. It would be an anthology series (some characters would appear again, like the main character in one scp story becomes a class D or a subject of another SCP’s wrath) and each episode would have 3 (sometimes 2 or 4) SCP’s featuring in it. Every episode would have 1 of the most popular SCP’s in it (example: 096, 049, 092, etc…) as well as having a less well-known scp. These episodes would be the around the same length as black mirror episodes.(45 min-1 hour 30 min) There would be 13 episodes with 36 SCP’s being explored. The final episode is about the breach that leads to the end of the world. The Peanut replication-thing would be in there, as well as all the other SCP’s that were covered in previous episodes. That episode has the event with 055 being brought to 579. This doesn’t stop the end of the world however, this just makes a split timeline where one universe doesn’t experience this event. The rest of the world is left to finally be destroyed by the SCP’s.
Sounds to me like it would be an almost clone of X-files. Episodes that focused on specific skips would be cool if they were done right, like Kikaider said. The 096 film comes to mind when setting the standard. Alternatively, if each season was dedicated to a specific canon, that would be interesting.
Legally, this series could exist, however it would have to omit 173, otherwise everything can be monetized if it's credited.
Turning scp-5000 into a live-action show would not be a good idea though because the experience of reading that article is unique. You can't visualize anything that's happening, your imagination takes over; it's best to either come up with new skips that would do better for TV or use skips that have overarching stories.
Is 173 not allowed because of it’s image used/look? Or has the author plagiarised (Yes, I know it was made before the weeping angels) most of the text?
173 cannot be used for any commercial purposes because of the image used: Untitled 2004 by Izumi Kato. He has allowed the site to keep the picture only if it is used for non-commercial purposes. Literally everything else on the site is fair game: all SCPs, tales, canons, GOIs, everything.
The 096 short film that was released could have been monetized, yet the creator decided to release it to the public for free because people pledged over $20,000 on kickstarter for production cost.
However, because of the nature of the wiki's license, you can sell whatever thing you make that is based off the Foundation, but you have to release that thing as CC-BY-SA 3.0., and anyone who copies, shares, or remixes your thing will have to classify their work as CC-BY-SA 3.0. You can't copyright strike anyone who uses your thing, though, because it's all creative commons, so if somebody takes your idea and makes a p0rn0 out of it well then you can't do anything. Unless they don't release it as CC-BY-SA 3.0.
I can honestly see a work around, like a re-design of SCP-173 could work since it wouldn't break the original picture copyright stuff. And it would allow the series to still have our crazy little statue. Not to mention that would be the easiest way of solving it.
My understanding of the license is limited, so take this with a grain of salt.
Using the image of Izumi Kato's sculpture or its likeness infringes on his copyright, but the actual concept of SCP-173 as "a monster that kills you if you don't look at it" is free to use provided it is licensed and attributed properly. I believe any redesign would have to be clearly an original work not derived from Untitled 2004 in any way in order to be legally acceptable. This may be a grey area, but a "crazy little statue" sounds like it would not be a safe idea.
Would completely pirating the tv show (with giving proper credit and all) be legal? If so I’d have a hard time believing Netflix (or another service) would host something like that.
I’ve been thinking about this, does anyone have any ideas for what SCP’s would work well for the series, I’m looking for the less-well-known ones that are interesting. I’ll make a list here as to what SCP’s would be included:
Popular SCP’s 173 (redesign), 049, 096, 106, 3008, SCP- -J, 2521, 087, 093, 426, 231, 682.
Interesting or lesser known SCP’s: 1507 (flamingos), 1370 (pesterbot), 1762 (here be dragons), 610 (pretty well known, but interesting), 2317 (maybe scarlet king), that’s all I have so far
But what if it was a sitcom like Friends or Frasier
Meet the [REDACTED]’s? I’d also like to hear the catchy theme song about literal nightmares.
Well, have you ever heard of the Addams Family? I think they managed to make a fairly catchy theme out of things that are basically nightmares, too.

But forgot to mention that nightmares are dreams, too." —Oscar Wilde

I'm just gonna say hi because you have Jamila from Ultraman as your profile picture. Tbh, a Black Mirror/Twilight Zone-esque SCP show would be kinda cool if done right.
I'd want it to have a traditional monster of the week format, but the show would be split into 3 distinct parts each following a different group of characters, each with its own distinct feel. The stories occasionally overlap, but for the most part the plots remain separate.
- A group of Foundation researchers working at a site (let's say Site-19). Most episodes involve the characters studying a new anomaly, often making difficult ethical decisions. Out of the three plots, this one feels the most down to earth. Sure, there are anomalies, but they're treated in a pretty matter of fact way.
- An MTF squad. This is the most action-oriented and large scale part. The characters travel all around the globe, fighting and capturing SCPs. Characters frequently die and are replaced, giving the audience the sense that any of them could be killed at any time.
- A group of ordinary people. They don't know about the Foundation, they don't know about the GOC, they don't know about anything. But what they do know is that the supernatural exists. And they are dedicated to getting to the bottom of it. Because these are just normal people dealing with terrifying threats, this is the most horror-oriented of the three parts.
Would that be like 3 parts per episode or 1 episode covering 1 of the 3 styles of stories?
Mostly the latter, although I imagine some episodes would cut between the styles.
I could imagine like 1 episode dedicated to to 1&2 above while 3 is a stand-alone episode, and then some episodes being seperate from each other like 1 is one episode, 2 is another, and 3 is another, and then there are times where all 3 are mixed into one episode, but it may take two parts.
Y'know it could work.
I think a D-class might work well as the protagonist of a monster-of-the-week series. They get thrown into crazy situations all the time.
You'll need the help of the mods to make sure it's quality stuff, this will reflect the entire scp community for people who are new and especially for those who only see this series.
I can see a LOT of potential in this, as you essentially have infinite ideas for episodes with new ones coming out every day!

Personally I've always wanted a big budget self contained Netflix series following the end of death canon.
I think the different perspective characters could make that a good watch.
I need to look into the end of death canon, but would a stand-alone episode/movie do the trick? Or are you thinking like different episodes with different character/same characters?
also

I'm thinking like a televised adaption of the various tales and SCPs in the end of death canon.
I'd definitely recommend checking it out its a wild ride
That would be very cool, but, to be honest. I see it more as a book series. Something like the Expanded Universe. With books you can be more creative and do so much more.
Yeh, I guess a book series would work. Were you thinking a ‘mock-nature book’? Or a series of novels like Harry Potter with a overarching story? I was thinking something like a Stephan King book.
I don’t know exactly what mock-book means. But I was thinking more of a free thing. Maybe two or three main arcs accompanied with short stires, novellas and one shots.
I'd want the show to be the SCP, but have it be hidden within the show itself. So while everything is normal and average, theres strangeness going on suggesting that it all could be some anomaly.
I'd want it to be an anime. Because damn all the anime tropes and antics would be ball-bustingly hilarious alongside the cosmic horror. I would want it to be mixed-genre, having both the deep and terrifying complex plots and light-hearted funny stupid story arcs. Focusing too much on one character, tone, or genre would take away from the diversity and richness of the SCP universe, where there's everything from Dr Bright drawing hentai to conspiracy scandals to human/mosquito romance to an extradimensional threat that kills you if you think about it. Presenting all this complexity while still giving fair attention to each character and story would be very difficult, but not impossible.
I'm seeing a Tales From The Crypt-style anthology series, with a narrator or guide figure presenting that week's cautionary tale. If anybody has seen Yamishibai that's also the sort of flavour I'm talking about, though not every story would have to be unsettling in nature. In the tradition of shows like TFTC, Inside Number 9 and Rick & Morty or even skit shows like The Fast Show you could break from the norm and have a really soulful or emotional episode as a break from all the pan-dimensional craziness and horror.
As I sit here thinking about it I can't get the image of Bobble the Clown as the presenter out of my head. Getting increasingly angry that he has to present these stories instead of his usual fare, perhaps?
Or does Iris takes us into another picture each week?
Side note, any TV series based on the Foundation would be an unbelievably lush garden for Easter Eggs to grow.
