So what follows in this collapsible was originally intended to be Addendum 1, however based on feedback I received during the writing process we determined that most people wouldn't find the following information interesting. Thus I decided to exclude it from the Article proper. However, when I originally posted the article, I had a footnote mentioning the addendum attached to a comment here on the discussion page. Based on feedback, this was fairly immersion breaking and I've ultimately decided to exclude the addendum from the article proper. Instead, I will leave the collapsible here for anyone interested on what my projected structural differences between the prion and the ATP-synthase would be. Thanks for reading.
SCP-2431 is a misfolded variant of ATP synthase, as mentioned previously, however; the protein also possesses several functional peptide chains not found on correctly folded ATP synthases. In addition to these chains, misfolding of normal ATP synthase enhances and/or alters several normal functions of the protein, in addition to several anomalous functions. Following are a list of the components, and their modified functions.
FO Complex:
- A and B subunits are refolded, hydrophobic amino acids are shifted inwards, but leave the H+ channel in tact. 3 Peptide chains are attached to both A and B subunits via disulfide bonds. 2 of the peptide chains contain 4 enzymatic active sites similar in structure and function to Chaperone proteins found in the Rough ER. The other peptide chain has 8 active sites of unknown function. Active sites use ATP as a cofactor.
- Flagella-like peptide chains become attached to C subunits via disulfide bonds, rotation of C subunits enhanced by new folding of A and B subunits allows H+ ions to pass through the channel more quickly. When submersed in liquids, rotation of C causes directed propulsion.
F1 subunit:
- Normal Alpha and Beta subunits refolded, 3 additional verisions of each become associated with the structure. Refolding creates a molecular drill at the tip around the hydrogen ion channel. Additional active sites for ATP production enhance activity of FO components.
- Gamma stalk subunit responsible for rotation of Alpha and Beta subunits refolded and modified. Modification of C subunits in FO allows faster ATP production, refolding of Gamma subunit allows faster rotation, and an additional component which allows it to change the confirmation of two active sites at once.
So here is my third SCP folks. A lot of thanks to Aiden, Niles, Weryllium, Shaggydredlocks, Joreth, and BlackFluid for their feedback and idea storming. This one started off as a Joke and evolved into a very sad narrative. I hope you guys like it.
