I thought I wasn't going to like this, and I was wrong. I really like it. Wish it was a little shorter and to the point, and that maybe the conversations were moved off into their own document.
Ooh, this is a fun SCP! I offer you congratulations; you really seem to have thought through all the possibilities for the functions of a recording that talks back to you.
I have only two questions: Has anyone tried erasing the data on the disks, or writing onto them w/o playing them?
This worked out better than I expected it would. I second Sorts suggestion that the interviews should be on their own page, as they are quite lengthy.
Ah, would 315-1 be able to tell if the researchers destroyed one of the disks?
And expanding on Malcom's first question, if they do manage to erase the data on a disk, will 315-1 forget the discussion he had with the researchers that was recorded on that disk?
Yeah, I was debating whether they needed to go onto a separate page myself. I'll probably do that a little bit later. It does need a little shortening as well, so I'll look through it for fluff that can be excised when I move the interviews.
Incidentally, there are two posts there that say it was better than expected. What was it that made you expect it not to be good?
The fact that the core idea is that of a video that talks with you made me think that. I thought that this would at most lead to an average SCP, but you managed to make it genuinely interesting with the way you developed it (the interview logs and how 315-1 reacts to the various tests ran on him were what most grabbed my attention)
Ah, by the way, you can edit your posts if you forgot to say something. There is no need to double post :P
So I can, missed that option. Thanks.
Edit: It works!
Edit part 2: The interviews are now part of their own attached document, and the descriptive text has been pruned. Thanks for the suggestions, folks.
The first thought I had was it would be another SCP-043 but this turned out much differently. It wasn't the interviews that grabbed me, myself, I thought they robbed this piece of some of its mystery, but the fact that this fellow has a limit amount of time to interact with anyone and doesn't seem to care is very interesting to me. Makes you really worry or wonder about what will happen when the discs run out, and whether or not the recorded man's ambivalence and encouragement for people to interact with him is just a trick to get people to burn through everything and unleash whatever happens with the disc runs out. Or maybe he's just done after that. Either way, very nice.
The interview logs are just delightful. 315-1 would fit right in on an episode of TNG, him and his chicanerous wit. Pretty sure I read his lines in Q's voice, in fact.
You know, I know where this came from, most likely. Or rather, what inspired it. That doesn't stop me from loving what you've done with it.
It's an enigma, and a nasty one, too. What, exactly, are these things for? You might never find out.
Worse, what happens when you reach the last disk…
Does the raw binary data on the disc change after the first view?
Two suggestions: test if the SCP's 'sight' is limited to where the screen should logically be able to see: and see what happens if a disc or part of it is played but the TV is off.
So mysterious. I really want to know what this "game" is he's referring to.
