This appeals to my predisposition towards bad puns.
I did not write this to be funny. This is one of the scariest things I can imagine. For me, anyway.
Upvoted. I like the idea.
Seems way too invasive to be merely memetic, though. Not arguing for a change, it just seems to be pushing the line. Like saying a computer file can redesign your computer…
but then again, a computer file can install a new OS…
In my mind, it's more of a "virtual machine" type replacement. It's not that your old mind is replaced, it's that it is instead running a program simulating a different mind.

Uh. Upvoted.
I dunno, for some reason this scares me a lot more than it probably should…
Indeed neat - this uses a concept i myself thought was scary and have done it with a failed parasite (because it had it just as a side thing). Upvoted.
There's one thing that bugs me - the last explanation. If the effect would be memetic, and tied to the text, the fact that it's a transcript would be irrelevant.
You might , rather want to say that said foreword (perhaps printed at back of book?) isn't the memetic carrier, or that the carrier isn't the text but rather paper texture or some such stuff
