Took me a little bit to understand the concept.
+1
It takes way too long to get to the point, and the tone is really off in places. Please make this more clinical.
Took something that people feel and made it into an SCP. The idea is absolutely astounding, +1
Sounds dumb, i'm not a linguist, but what's a hereronym? Google reveals such word as not being mentioned much elsewhere.
I would presume it's a typo. A heTeronym is a pair of words that are spelt identically, but with different meanings and sometimes pronounciations. For example:
The D-class is a convict.
against
To become a D-class, a court must convict you.
I do like this, but it really needs more containment procedures. Even ignoring the extra activation sites mentioned in addendum one, at minimum we need a policy for affected civillians.
(I hope I'm interpreting this right) How typical of the SCP Foundation to view something positive like this as a threat to Humanity. ;)
It's true, much of this is positive; however, as stated in the thing, it makes it impossible to lie. And not just lie as in "No, honey, I'm absolutely not sleeping with Sherry in accounting, I just have caller ID of her calling me 87 times because I've been working with her a lot lately!" It's an Absolute Truth sort of thing, so even something as benign as past imperfections that would have been forgotten/ignored becomes intrinsic to the very thing itself and is a constant reminder every time it's spoken about… And a wound that's constantly picked at will never heal.
so far as i can tell, the effect this article has on me is the exact opposite of what it seems to be trying to describe. the writing is hard to follow, the effects aren't very clear, and the location is very specific, despite apparently not being unique. i know other people really like it, but somehow, NONE of it works for me.
I really don't blame you. The idea started out as something totally different and eventually developed into this. It feels scattershot even to me. I'm honestly kind of surprised the reception has been okay so far. Anyways, the basic gist is that when mankind was young, we were in "paradise". We hadn't 'named' natural phenomena through science or religion. Everything was a wonder, and we communicated that wonder in a language we were meant to speak, the seeds of which are in us all. But that beauty has started to recede, and now you can only find it in little pockets of the world when the the weather and timing is just right. It's a dying breed.
Now see, when I first read this I went 'meh' and continued on my way. That explanation made me upvote for great justice. And paradise.
Hey, thanks. :) Pauli, if you happen to catch this, I'm curious where you think the writing is hard to follow? I felt it was a bit dense myself.
Not Pauli, but egocentrical enough to answer anyway, the writing was what turned me off the upvote at first. It was hard to get to the core of the text. But as a non-native speaker, I figure that probably doesn't amount to much in the way of arguments.
1206-A has developed concurrently even in isolated …
^^This is where I kind of got sidetracked.
Fair enough, it does meander a bit. That'll teach me to follow my gut instinct next time.
edit: Mhm, I can definitely see why. Thanks. I'll work on this when I get back from school.
