I just couldn't bear the thought of this one without a photo, so I got a new one! And it's great! Original is here.

Ah, almost forgot to do this. Thanks to people in several chats for looking this over and helping me get rid of the stupid, particularly Reject who did an especially thorough review of it in a PM.
EDIT: And Roget for the picture.

SCP-1246 is contained in a cylindrical tank of water thirteen meters in diameter and one meter in diameter.
What? Aside from that, I've got no strong feelings one way or the other. No vote.
That's what we in the biz call a typo. Good catch.

with trace amounts of iridium accumulates
Does it have some connection to meteor strikes?
Through an unknown process, a mixture consisting primarily of volcanic ash with trace amounts of iridium accumulates on SCP-1246 at an approximate rate of 30cm/yr.
So, enough ash is generated each year to cover the entire circle to a depth of 30cm. It might be better to state this as the number of cm^3 or m^3 generated per day/week/month/year.

Lol i unno

I'd considered that, but hadn't gotten around to it. Changing now.

I love this.
I really love this.
I'm going to go try and make an audio file of the sounds SCP-1246 makes now. It'll take me a couple of weeks but it'll be done.
Man, first the tale about my Proposal, and now this. I do have a girlfriend, you know.

I have a boyfriend.
I'm not suggesting a four way though, however…
This is weirdly compelling. I like it.

Also, the current procedure used to collect the ash seems over the top. I'd think that having it be swept every day by level-0 personnel or D-Class personnel would be sufficient. From the description, just wearing a dust filter mask and goggles would be enough protection.
The thing's made of lots of blocks of slate; there's no good way of getting it out of all the crevasses short of water or a vacuum. It's not that they can't have anyone exposed to it ever, it's just that they've decided it's safest all around to keep anything coming out of this thing at arm's distance, just in case it does some nasty shit that they don't know about yet.
