Hmm, question, is this purely for folks with a scientific/technical background or could average folks also volunteer their skills? Like I know we have several folks who don't mind proof reading or other menial tasks and would volunteer those services.
IIRC, site policy already allows users to make simple edits to any article for spelling, grammar & formatting fixes. If you mean that you're willing to offer your services as a pre-posting proofreader, then sure, add yourself.
Giving bearhugs to the unsuspecting since 1872.
Yeah. I mean, the most I'm good at is music making and a basic understanding of audio mechanics, but I can proofread and edit well (even for teachers on occasion).
That's clutterful. Pretty much anyone on the chat or on the forums will proofread stuff - the point of this page is to point out who can do stuff everyone can't .. so like, when you are looking up how to design alien reproductive organs, you talk to Rights.
Good point. We already have the Help & Advice forum and chat if you're wanting to find someone to help proof. Boa, I'm not going to remove you myself, but you may want to remove yourself. That, or expand on "alternative studies" (what DID you mean by this, anyway?)

I propose adding a new category for his like. The Oompa-loompas.
And he means finding alternatives to public decency =^.^=
Well there is that, but I also have a hobbyists understanding of theoretical biology, palaeontology, cryptozoology, and a high-school level understanding of psychology, hence the alternative studies.
I'm thinking this should be pruned of things that don't really need expertise, like proofreading. Also, you should decide if we need jokes in here or not, to make it easier for people to look through the list and find what they need.
Eric and Reject: I am going to write an SCP about accounting and rap music, just to spite you both. And I'm going to harass you for advice. :-)
To be honest. I was hoping to see someone submit themselves as a Theoretical Physicist and proceed to list subtle hints that they are Gordon Freeman.
Nothing like responding to a 3 year old post without noticing that tells you. you didn't get enough sleep last night.
KARMA Operations, instead of replying to your own comments, edit your previous post using the "edit" function under the "options" tab to the lower right of every comment. That prevents spam buildup, and it's in the rules.
For anyone else reading this thread, please keep in mind that this list is not for roleplaying, and only people who have legitimate IRL qualifications should ask to be added to the list. The page is for listing contacts who can help authors writing SCPs pertaining to scientific/professional topics.
Sorry. I'll remove it if you want.
I thought this was for stuff we happened to be good at, or had as hobbies not stuff we had professionally studied.
Not to be disparaging , but there's people I know who can find better pictures than you. Hell, even I got my own Visual Records file full of odd shit.
Either way, that's not something someone would seek professional advice on as that's a thing that just takes time and guts.
Professional study, I think, is the primary purpose — but if you're really quite good at something sufficiently specialized, even if you haven't studied it formally, then I see no reason why you shouldn't put it up here. I've got all of one college course in linguistics, for instance, but I'm a slightly ridiculous etymology buff, so I put it up there anyway.
(edit) That said, VAE does have a point in this case.
SCP Wiki Administrator | Earth: We're all in this together.
Why? I think it'll be a fun experience for everyone involved.
Just wait for the dozens of PMs from the hordes of noobs going "omg plz halp rite mah SPC!!!1!"
I highly doubt it will be like that, besides that's exactly what the volunteers are volunteering for, it's to help the poor misunderstood noob and to build a better tomorrow. Not to mention that I'm on the non-professional list and I sincerely doubt anyone will be hitting me up for help on Cambrian sea conditions or cryptid factoids.
My expertise are so damn specific I doubt anyone would seriously try and ask for help.
Off I go anyways.
Do these areas of expertise have to be official in any way? Because I know a fair bit about macro-engineering and world history between 1914 and 1945, but I don't exactly have qualifications.
