When the first line of the description suggests that the skip is the Zodiac Killer, you know you're in for a doozy.
And holy mother of mercy was this a doozy.
I'm not familiar enough with the original Zodiac letters to comment on the verisimilitude of the ones you have here. However, I can say that your letters absolutely look like they were written by a crazy person—and I say that with admiration, mind you. Honestly, this whole thing feels next-level crazy, and I love it for that. Heck:
Both Researchers were miked as per the letter.
Crap on a cupcake. I thought this said milked, and the fact that that seemed perfectly in line with the article thus far is a testament to how bonkers the whole affair is. And then the article started dipping into almost-but-not-quite-but-maybe-actually meta territory, and then the whole thing is implied to be some sort of ersatz guerrilla marketing campaign, and what even. By all accounts, this should have been a hot mess, but it's so consistent in its insanity that the whole thing somehow works.
The Mark Ruffalo thing was a weak point of the article for me, though. Even with the film connection, it still felt a smidge too lolrandom for skip that's otherwise very thematically coherent (somehow). The 173 reference felt a bit gratuitous as well. Furthermore, a number of sentences throughout this piece have a very long, rambling quality to them—which I assume is due to the furious pace at which you must have typed this—and although it adds to the ambiance of insanity, it also makes the article a little clunky to read. It'd be nice to see this tightened up after the contest is over, but I won't hold it against you if you leave it as-is.
Also, I found a number of little errors in the document. I fixed the ones that looked like they probably weren't intentional, but left a few I was unsure about.
Finally, apropos of nothing:

I'm pretty sure I invented this term, and it's nice/surreal to see that it's apparently in common parlance now.
I think I need to go lie down. +1
