Life got in the way and I stopped coming around just before series 3 opened up. I gather a lot has changed since then.
There were only 3 official object classes, reality anchors were referenced in maybe two tales, up-voting was a major faux pas….
What else is new? Did we ever get a consensus on amnesiac/amnestic?
Any suggestions for must-read material to get a sense of the last five years?
Well, it’s definitely amnestic, but I can suggest a few articles for you:
- SCP-3171 - hilarious article about plants that talk (slightly NSFW), my favorite article
- SCP-3329 - punny article about lollipops, my second favorite article
- SCP-3737 - tear-jerking article about pets
- SCP-3864 - a selfish plug because this was the first skip that I wrote. It’s a love story.
- BobbleCon 2018 - fantastic tale
- Vend-a-Friend - a wonderful Dr. Wondertainment tale series by DarkStuff
There are a bunch of others, but this could be a good showcase (at least a start of one) on how far the site has come!
Did we ever get a consensus on amnesiac/amnestic?
Thankfully, yes. It's amnestic.
Any suggestions for must-read material to get a sense of the last five years?
Hoo boy, there's been a lot. SCP-3001's a pretty must-read article, and SCP-3008 (the infamous IKEA article) has become unexpectedly popular with the fan-base. The Shark Punching Centre has developed into its own weird thing, and Thaumiel and Apollyon classes are pretty widely accepted, with Hiemal (Heimal?) getting there too. SCP-2521 and Murphy Law redefined the format and pushed the boundaries of format screws, and… Yeah. Yeah, there's a lot.
Those are the big, major things, I think. Check out the winners and runners up of the 2000 and 3000 contests, and just generally browse the newer stuff — its all pretty good :)
Besides that the IRC is up to it's usual shenanigans there's a new hub for Wondertainment. Herman fuller's circus of the disquieting has a full tale series based around it. Writers like Kaktus and Roget are still going strong. A lot of new tags have been added. We just outgrew our old sandbox… There's a lot of other things as well.
and Thaumiel and Apollyon classes are pretty widely accepted,
Ehh, Apollyon is still finding it's role and isn't as well-established as Thaumiel, but it certainly is more accepted than it was two five(!!!) years ago.
Just over a year ago now I started what would become the Dread & Circuses Canon, essentially reviving Herman Fuller as a GoI.
A lot has changed since Series II. A whole lot…
- LurkD wrote SCP-2521, and now it's the third-highest rated SCP on the site.
- Tanhony, Kalinin and PeppersGhost are still here and they're tearing up the mainlist with some quality stuff.
- An author named djkaktus came around and pretty much turned the SCP format on its head. I'd recommend reading SCP-2935 and SCP-1730, since those are his most famous works
- Narratives are the go-to story now.
- The 3000 contest happened. djkaktus/ARD/Joreth won with SCP-3000, but a lot of quality stuff came out of it too, including SCP-3001, SCP-3002, SCP-3003, SCP-3007, SCP-3333, SCP-3512], SCP-3517, SCP-3519 and SCP-3999.
- Ikea, vore, and KFC are SCPs now.
- Another writer, The Great Hippo, tore up Series IV with a bunch of quality stuff, like SCP-3034, SCP-2571, SCP-2419, and especially SCP-3043 are his most famous stuff. Unfortunately, he's left the site now :-(
- The upvote economy inflated so hard since Series II.
- read my scps plz
The upvote economy inflated so hard since Series II.
Every thing has. The posting rate for new articles is probably at least an order of magnitude faster.
Two big new GoI's, Sarkicism and Anderson Robotics, and two awesome new canons, Third Law and On Mount Golgatha. That's basically all I'd recommend. (Not that anything else mentioned is bad)
Situation normal, Cap'n! Spiraling out of control!
Don't forget Gamers Against Weed.
Oh hey, it's the Booger Penny Hoax Guy.
Late, but if you're (somehow) not settled back in yet, I'm gonna recommend the ol' describe Antimemetics Division, my personal favorite canon atm. Good ass read!
Well Volgun on Youtube has covered some very interesting SCP's. I'd recommend watching his videos, if you'd like to hear these SCP's read to you. https://www.youtube.com/user/TheVolgun/featured
SCP-1689 - The mission log for this one, turn a seemingly mundane SCP into something really cool
SCP-2967 - I like this one, don't want to spoil it.
SCP-2200 - A pretty cool SCP. Also going to be featured in Lord Bung's Confinement series.
SCP-3209 - One of my personal faves, love the narrative in this one.
SCP-2399 - One of my fave ideas. Using SCP's to explain real world phenomena
SCP-2662 - I enjoyed this one a lot.
