So Dread & Circuses has been around long enough that the first couple chapters or so have some 'early instalment weirdness' ie them killing a GOC operative in cold blood (though ostensibly it was preemptive self-defence). This was poorly received, both in the comment section and evidenced by the fact that Fuller than Full is the poorest rated tale in D&C despite being the second oldest.

I decided never to depict the Circus like that again based on the response, but at the same time I don't want to literally retcon it. Instead, I thought I'd just go into a little more detail about why Lolly (and by extension Icky) hates the GOC so much.

I also wanted to visit Ed & Al's emporium and resolve what I started in Utter Depravity, so I tied them together into one tale.

Thanks to my beta readers Baubius, CaptainKirby, Draycott, Darkstuff, Stormbreath, and shoutout to fieldstone who wrote 1001 Dark and Stormy nights, which is the reason Iris is visiting Ed & Al in this tale.

I really love where this series has been going. The circus is one of those groups that it's fun to just unleash them and their specific oddness onto otherwise relatively normal situations and watch the chaos unfold.

Iris is just… Cold and brutal. I like her. Well, I've always liked her, I find Iris very interesting personally and I love the tales with her in them and just following her little adventures. Her relationship with Percival Darke is also mildly amusing, a sort for Teacher and Student thing happening with Iris constantly wanting to prove her worth and impress her teacher.

A little bit X-Men, a little bit Goblin Hunter, a little bit FMA, a little bit Brexit… all that and character development too.
