After playing the XCOM series for years, I have come to love the Ethereals, more importantly, Shamash and Asaru. While I don't want to rip-off Declassified, I would like to write an SCP based on the whole 'spirit in a jar' concept who by nature isn't evil but can be seen as a threat. I have scanned quickly and haven't found any majorly similar SCPs done, but just wanted to do a quick check so I don't infringe on other people's work.
What is XCOM?
Also I have no idea what you're idea is, what do you mean by "Spirit in a jar?"
XCOM is a videogame series. As for “Spirit in a jar” is more literal than it sounds. The idea is that the entity is a spirit or some kind of ghost-like phenomenon that piggybacks off humans but can be stored in a “jar” container.
I've played XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Within and XCOM 2 + War of the Chosen. So I get the general concept you're going for. You want to create an SCP that is some kind of energy/spiritual creature. That desires a physical body, with which to interact, with the world? Fortunately these entities can be contained within specially constructed jars?
Now I think you could enhance this SCP idea further, by having factions of these Ethereals. Maybe one faction is working with a group of anomalous individuals, to produce suitable vessels for them to inhabit? This could take on many forms, robotic bodies, stone golems, the jars or maybe living vessels, similar to the avatars from XCOM 2?
That is indeed the general idea that I was going for. I do like the idea of there being factions of this particular SCP and some kind of cult trying to find suitable bodies for them to inhabit. Reminds me of the Death Cult from Judge Dredd.
You could have a faction, that's trying to subvert and takeover world governments. Another that's trying to wipe out GoI like the GoC and the Foundation, since they're both direct threats. And maybe a smaller faction that's willing to assist the Foundation, and provide the jars, to store hostile instances of these Ethereals.
The jars should be a sub-SCP like SCP-Number-1 And any sort of body or vessel these Ethereal's craft for themselves, can be called SCP-Number-2.
I’ll be adding a GoI, however I’m currently focusing on the first encounter and Patient Zero.
