So, if you know me, you know how much I love to talk shit about creepypasta — not because I take issue with the concept of spreading scary stories online, and not just because the genre has been flooded with a lot of bad material (the same could be said of every genre), but largely because of the negative impact I think it's had on the writing on this site. I can't blame people for being creepypasta fans, but when they bring the sensibilities and standards of that genre over here just because that's how we started out, well, it really doesn't work out for anyone, you know? Sometimes I feel we'd do well to distance ourselves from creepypasta more but it's probably not worth the effort.
The point of mentioning all that is that when I vouch for a creepypasta site, you know that I've really thought over whether it's worth your while, and that's what I'm doing here. The site I found recently collects user-submitted short stories, including creepypasta, either with their own signature template or just in plain prose or whatever. I don't want to get into the specifics because it's really something you should experience for yourself, but there is a LOT of great material. Like, literally thousands of stories (it's kind of overwhelming to be honest).
They've got pretty rigorous quality control, which god knows isn't a guarantee of quality literature especially since membership is pretty open, but there's at least a minimal standard of quality and originality that most online writing sites lack. The result is that really unique and engaging stories get posted there all the time, and if you like the stuff we do here, I'm sure you'll get something out of their stuff. Hell, I've even heard there are video games based on their stuff, but I haven't looked into that cuz video games are shit.
If you're not in the mood for creepypasta, they have pretty much every genre you could ask for — horror, obviously, but also comedy, action, science fiction, drama, romance, intrigue… often more than one at a time! The setup is pretty open-ended, so contributors have a lot of creative freedom. They've branched out to other genres instead of just sticking to creepypasta, which can make it harder to get right to the goods, but I understand their decision — look at the Holders if you wanna know what happens if you don't ruthlessly circumvent your constraints.
You can check their stuff out here, but they collected most of the quality content on one specific page, so if you just want to skim, that's probably the place to start. If you decide to join, try not to make us look bad — they have pretty high standards for contributing and commenting over there, so if you plan to be anything less than good and cool, uh, don't say you got there from here.
