So there's this super cool plant genus Cuscuta that latches on to other plants and steals almost all of its resources from that plant. Some species barely have any chlorophyl so they rely on their host entirely, but they're also an ectoparasite so they grow huge and can leech of multiple plants.
I was thinking: what if a Cuscuta species was genetically engineered or something into a parasite that could leech energy off of almost anything, so it could latch on to plants and animals but also set itself up in a vent or a heater or even directly into an electrical grid and anomalously transform all the energy it needed to survive off of the air current/heat/electricity. This would be something people would probably want to study because cracking how the SCP survives would let you get food directly from electricity or vice versa.
I'm not really sure where to take it from there though. You could have the SCP hide in the vents and try to escape somehow, or maybe it could be used to create a matrix style "use misbehaving class D as walking batteries". I'm not sure the SCP should be able to control its host zombie style, having it attached to someone with no way to get it off without flaying the skin it latched on to and having the victim be lucid through the bureaucracy of deciding what to do would be pretty scary.
Would something of this sort be an interesting read?
Is this too similar to another SCP I haven't read?
