The emphasis on blood and darkness with no contextualization, subversion, or self awareness just makes the idea seem edgy rather than the macabre image I think you were aiming for. As you've described it, its just a simple thing that exists to be mildly creepy. That just isn't enough for a proper short story.

Do you have any ideas about a background, or an implication, or something that would invest your readers in the object?
