I've heard of this ancient folkloric phenomenon.
I think knowing it was constructed, and who made it will ultimately help you in the long run in describing to the reader just what it is, how it was found, and how it reacts and acts.
My take on this is that hinting on what it is, instead of outright stating that it is an amalgamated homunculus created from penises and foreskin, could go a long way to making something subtly creepy. There is a line, of course. It needs to be made clear just what it is, without being blatant about it. Perhaps in the scientific description describing what kind of skin it has, the texture, its organs functioning analogously as opposed to homologously like something else.
And does a creature created from penises and foreskin have intelligence? What is its intelligence? What does it want? Or need?
For that matter, if it is the result of a multi-generational cult of witches, would the Foundation be concerned about harming it given that many of its … donors are probably already dead? Or does this creature affect their descendants through some kind of sympathetic genetic leverage? It could fit into why the witches coven made it. Maybe there is a way to bring a phallus tree into the entire thing: which apparently was thought to be a thing in some medieval folklore and literature.
But playing on the creature's … for lack of a better word, humanity is your best bet. You still have to remain objective and impartial in the language of the article, but there are ways around that with interviews and observational recordings.
I do want to see the Draft of this article if you have it/or will make it. I say run with this.
