Dr Ridley, as per the forum guidelines: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-2295410/how-to-use-this-forum-drafts-and-critiques
Do not bump threads! That's spammy and unfair to people being patient. |
Instead of posting multiple comments in succession, please edit your previous post using the "edit" function under the "options" tab to the lower right of every comment. That prevents spam buildup, and it's in the rules.
Furthermore, staff prioritize draft threads with no replies, so adding extra comments to your thread actually lowers the chance that someone will look at it. Also, putting a bunch of posts in makes the author look impatient, which can make reviewers hesitate to want to help them out at all.
If you really don't want to wait longer, try the IRC chatrooms: http://www.scp-wiki.net/chat-guide
That said, I did get a PM about this, so I will review it momentarily.
Okay, so… I took a quick look at this. It's definitely not mainsite-ready.
Immediate things people will downvote for:
- Improper formatting. Your section headings are not bolded, and all of your top content is squished together rather than properly spaced apart. Please use the templates available in the How to Write an SCP Guide.
- Problematic containment.
- How large is "large aquatic object containment"? Give us a more objective lower bound or something. Different people have different ideas of "large".
- Why is the site name so long and blackboxed? That's important information that everyone handling the thing should know about.
- Why does this thing get two giant sharks daily? That's insane. An adult male bull shark can weigh about 200 pounds (90 kg). That's a huge investment of time, money, and resources to obtain and move into the containment. Rather than wasting all of that, why not just keep the thing sedated so it doesn't have to be only fed bull sharks?
- who has access to this thing anyway? Is it locked up at all?
- I recommend reading this guide on containment to get a feel for how to write more logical, resource-conserving procedures.
- Unprofessionalism
- don't use bold for emphasis. It looks silly.
- Italicize Latin names for species.
- Censorship is sloppy. "Testing of the shed samples from the cartilage has revealed… sprinkles and confetti?" There's no context in the article that indicates that's not the case. I recommend reading over this guide on interesting expungment for some tips.
- I think you're misusing the terminology for "instance"
- Overly-complicated kind of over-powered thing that hits a lot of pitfalls for new writers
- Humanoids are actually among the most difficult types of articles to write successfully; if you're really set on writing one, then first take a look at the humanoid writing guide if you haven't yet.
- Why are there so many things added onto this? You've got the weird skin things, the the cartilage eating, the self-healing, the telepathy, the ability-giving, the instances that are mentioned but not designated, the lofty "Great Mother" title…
I recommend getting the base idea polished up in the Ideas and Brainstorming forum before you try fixing the draft. Go to that forum, post a quick summary of the concept you want to write up (don't link the draft unless someone asks), and reviewers there can help you make the idea more interesting and give you some advice on structuring the eventual article for smoothness of reading and narrative.
Thank you for the feedback and I should have run the idea by the idea gen forum before posting it here I just got overly exited and skipped a couple steps. Is it possible to delete this forum so I can polish up the idea?
