The modified patents are the items kept in containment, as they are anomalous in the first place, but also are an "anchor" for the phenomenon itself. In containment is also the anomalous photograhy of a man of the early 20th century, supposed to be the "thieving inventor", although like the name, it does not seems to exist anywhere else or in any database.
But, every so often, the phenomenon will get "hungry" for new patents, and therefore enter an active state that is detectable by the Fondation (The photo and patents in containment will be suddenly physically altered). If the Research team does not provide it with existing, genuine patents in a short delay of a few days (they can be about anything technological, and from any period of time), the "ghost" will actively seek living people that recentely invented something but did not already patent it, and arrange for the person to be killed in a accident very quickly. It will then "steal" the idea by making a patent appear in its name, near the ones that already exist in containment. The team have to comply with its "thirst" for the new patent and provide them, since they don't know how to contain the phenomenon and avoid the deaths.
I was then thinking of making 2 little addenda, one about notable invention it has "stolen", and one about "inventors" it has potentially killed in more or less recent history.
Finally, maybe a bit of a backstory about the discovery, but I haven't developped that yet.
Questions :
So, here it is for the moment.
Of course the principal question is : What do you think of it ?
But I also have some more specific question to the seasoned writters out there:
. I'm not sure where to put the part explaining the potential killing of another "inventor". Do I talk about it in the Special Containment Procedures, as it's something that always happens during a breach ? Since the procedures are supposed to tell the team what to do in case of a breach, I would say yes, but I also sense it could have its place in the Description area since it goes in depth about the functionning of the SCP. What do you think ?
. I'm not sure how to classify it. I would have gone for Euclid, because at the same time it's easy to contain if you give him what he needs, but also very hard since it's impossible to contain in case of a breach?
At the same time, it's currently unstoppable when it gets out, so it could be Keter, but then again, avoiding the breach and killing scenario is really easy for the forseable future. Any advice on that ?
. Since the information the SCP alters is sensible and public, and since it potentially kills people who are also more or less public (imagine if it killed Steve Jobs, just for an example), I imagine the Foundation would have to run black out operations about victims or well-known inventations patents that would have been altered. Is it pertinent to talk about this ?
