Here's my current understanding of different levels of what could be called "AI" in the Foundation:
- so, there exist "Foundation AIs" that, in my headcanon, possess MGS-like reach over (both non-anomalous and anomalous) information in digital form; an example is ATLS and GRGN from SCP-2293
- there are also AICs which appear sentient but also seem to be more restricted than the "Foundation AIs"
- anomalous AI SCPs (e.g. Anderson Robotics stuff)
- finally, Foundation web crawlers (c.f. SCP-1584, and PANOPTES from SCP-2405) which don't seem like full AI but are more like highly automated databases that have wide non-anomalous information reach
The idea of a mechanical Foundation web crawler gradually becoming more self-aware, and in the process lowering ambient Hume levels, seems like something that could be interesting. The progression of sentience is superficially kinda like that Marshall Carter & Dark tale about sacrificial AICs becoming more "realistic," except the focus would be on containment.
