Summary: A giant tortoise that's the last of its kind. On each 'plate' of its shell, there are inscriptions (maybe pictograms of some sort idk). When a human places their palm on an inscription, they're transported back to an event in the tortoise's life (keep in mind this thing is like 1000+ years old it's seen some shit). What's interesting is that the tortoise will be there with them, as if they're reliving the event together. It isn't a compulsory effect, though - nobody's being compelled to touch the tortoise, and they can exit the 'dream' at any time they want. After the 'dream' is over, the subject doesn't remember any of it. So it doesn't really transfer memories; it just relives them with you for a short time, maybe because that's the only way it can remember its past.
Details: It would likely be a Safe SCP as it's perfectly content with being locked up and fed every once in a while, although it can get kind of gloomy if nobody 'interacts' with it for a while. I'd like to evoke a mix of happiness and wonder with a tinge of sadness in the reader.
Things I'd like help with:
- What kind of backstory should I give the tortoise?
- Should I keep the article short & sweet, or more expansive?
- Is it fine if the reliving-memories part is its only anomalous trait?
- Are there any SCPs that are too similar to this?
- With what I've wrote here, would the idea stand on its own?
Thanks for your time.
