Hello there. For those who don't know me, I'm Dr. Gears. I am actually a person, not a concept, a machine, or dead. I am somewhat like a volcano, going through long periods of dormancy, then sputtering to life with little warning. Hopefully this marks a more active period?
I had a point here, I swear…
So instead of actually publishing anything, I often play games. In the bygone eras of time I was known to dump collections of abandonware and such for the community, even. However those are just that, bygone days, and now I make do with more sedate, and likely much more legal, means. In short, I like games, and while I am not particularly good at them, I like sharing them with others in various ways. So, with that in mind, let me tell you why I keep getting distracted from writing.
I play a fair amount of Doom, owing to that dual facts that it's near-limitless and free replayability with mods, and I missed out during its heyday due to uptight parents. I adore roguelikes of all forms, and have logged whole nations of dead adventurers in Stone Soup, Nethack, Ascii Sector and a host of others. I play an enormous amount of retro games as well, from the NES on forward. I do have modern interests as well, and have sunk entirely too much time in to the likes of skyrim, dragon's dogma, okami, and slowly punishing myself with bloodborne, among others. I tend to lag a few years behind the trend, both owing to general stubbornness and being poor most of the time.
So, yes, I have somewhat varied interests. I'm a little leery of Steam, but use GOG to a distressing amount, and seem to have fallen on the Playstation side of that particular console war. I'm still adjusting to the whole digital copy only world, and still pine from time to time for the clatter of cartridges in a shoebox.
So, all that said…what about you? Anything you like to play when you should be accomplishing something? Anything spark your interest? Want to natter about on GOG Galaxy or somesuch? Pick my brain or hurl insults? Drop by, say hello, maybe the shame of attention will help prod me off the fence a bit. I'd love to hear from you.
