This is born of my childhood fascination with Shonen battle game anime— specifically, the trope you see in a lot of them where not only are the magical beasts in the cards/tops/marbles real, but they're capable of having measurable effects on the environment despite being holographic/otherwise immaterial. Seriously, Duel Monsters is a dangerous game even if you're not battling on the back of a blimp with an Egyptian pharaoh.
Anyway, it's half that, half the fact that fidget spinner SCPs haven't really… worked in the past. I feel like that a lot of the missed the point that they're meant to be toys and little else; so, to skippify them, you want to capitalize on the fact that they're not only toys, but fad toys. Don't tell me that Beyblade wasn't a fad.
Special thanks to DrChandra, stormbreath, Jazstar, A_Sack_Of_Potatoes, and everyone else on chat who critiqued it.
