Inspired by the same conversation in chat that produced Mann's latest tale. Thanks to Scantron for suggesting the title.
Not a problem. Thank you for writing it.

I rather like this one. The backdrop feels excellently adapted from Canticle for Leibowitz, and it's nice to see a far future that is a little less dystopian than the Wonders universe.
Well done. +1

This manages to be light and almost funny in tone and still be horrifying. Well done.
As I see it this could very easily fit within the Bellerverse….perhaps a few centuries before the period that most of the Bellerverse stories are written in, but definitely within the same sequence of events.
I'm only vaguely familiar with the Bellerverse and didn't write this with it in mind. I'd call it the "Smaptiverse" but I'm not likely to ever write another tale in this particular setting.
I like that the revered holy words of Lord Bright were
"Damnit, not this again."
I particularly enjoyed:
"…Unless we test it and see what happens?"
"Yes, my lord."
"It is written," the cardinal said, "that the last words spoken before the Great Breach were 'test it and see what happens'."
Anyways, great story!
