I agree that it would be bad science to jump to conclusions about what many objects appear to be, but is it reasonable to assume that these parallels would be completely ignored? The possible biblical/historical implications of Cain, Able, and Lilith are never acknowledged in their respective articles. There are also cases like SCP-746 where the mythological parallel could reasonably have been used as a much simpler visual cue for in-universe readers ("is similar in appearance to traditional depictions of Tengu in Japanese folklore"), but were not mentioned at all.
At minimum the old myths would make a reasonable frame of reference for testing: no, we should not assume that the wolfman has a silver allergy based only on folklore, but we sure as hell SHOULD be investigating the possibility. The fact that we're not doing so for the most part strikes me as very strange, but is also one of the most interesting quirks in the Foundation, especially when an article like this pops up.
