I'll admit the picture isn't anything inspired; it's meant to just be an unsettling image of 3544-1 instances to help the reader picture what they look like. It worked well for other articles that inspired me, such as SCP-3199 and SCP-2852, and there are dozens of other articles featuring images for the sake of portraying an anomaly, so I didn't really think there was anything wrong with it.
I suppose if you strip everything back the entire anomaly is "shadow people invade your house, cut out your organs and take your soul", but there are a lot of themes here I've tried to really reinforce to take it beyond that. The idea of a home, your safe space, being corrupted and preventing you from escape is one of those, which I compounded with the partner being the perpetrator of violence. The organs removed are significant too: each one corresponds to a chakra gate, so the removal of organs is a process of separating the victim's soul from their body. Finally, there's an underlying theme of domestic violence - a shadow possessing your loved one, hurting you as they claim to not want to, and preventing you leaving. The 76% of 3544-B cases being male was deliberate, too, and was supposed to reflect figures from 2014, which was the latest I could get an accurate number on. Maybe it's tacky and/or my writing skill wasn't enough to pull it off, but I did try to take this skip beyond generic gore, or "standard creepypasta" as you put it.
