Good skip. May the nonspecific GoI win!!!!

What's that :?
I can guarantee there is no such acronym thing as whatever you're saying!
Hi! This is my second skip attempt and it's for a project that I've been working on with several other amazing authors. This was initially going to be my 4k entry, but I felt that the impact wasn't quite as strong as some of the others, so I held off on it. I hope you enjoy what I've made here!
Thank you to countless people whose usernames I don't remember (I'm so sorry) for making sure everything was understandable and readable.
Thank you to Roget for their valuable insight and telling me to expand this.
Thank you to FloppyPhoenix for critting this the other day.
And most importantly, thank YOU for reading!
Did you like what you read? I have one other SCP right now that can be found here.
Image is from: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5b/Theodore_Roosevelt_1901-08.jpg/800px-Theodore_Roosevelt_1901-08.jpg
It is public domain.
You know that it's a matter of public record who was Treasury Secretary in 2004, yes?
The public record is a public record, true.
This reminds me of a bit of fiction I read years ago that mentioned a governmental level X steps above the POTUS, which is entirely in the Foundation's wheelhouse.
There's a giant glaring plot hole here:
Lots of presidents mentioned here weren't dead for a long time after they left office. If the object acts as you describe, the user has to wear them 24/7 for them to look like this person.
It also means if they were ever taken off, the illusion would be broken. The moment they put them back on, they'd look like themself (as they were the last person to wear the glasses).
Nixon and Reagan were alive at the same time, but supposedly both using this object.
Second plot hole:
A lot of the people you mentioned didn't wear glasses. Unless the glasses aren't part of the illusion? What about other clothing? These are questions that need to be answered to keep the suspension of disbelief.
There's a lot of unexplained things in here, and the basic effect doesn't really make sense. Also, how are they covering up all of these deaths? Only Nixon gets any description of their death; teddy could have died from the original gunshot, I suppose, but what about Reagan?
Last and probably the biggest plot hole:
Why is the foundation allowing this to happen with an object. Why would the Foundation even care about non-anomalous deaths of a political figure? Why would they ever let this object be used so blatantly?
This goes counter to the basic mission statement of the Foundation.
My other major question is where did these come from? Why did Roosevelt even have them?
You've given me a ton to think about, which is something I always welcome. Though, I do think that you may have missed some small points in the article. I'll address these and the rest of your comment under the collapsible.
It also means if they were ever taken off, the illusion would be broken. The moment they put them back on, they'd look like themself (as they were the last person to wear the glasses).
I felt that this line here:
When an individual puts on SCP-3782, they are perceived by others to be the last person who died while wearing the object
covered this flaw. The glasses only maintain the last person to have passed while wearing them. Putting them on now would make the next person look like Reagan, as would the next person. It's all Reagan from here on out. Though, you're right that a lot of presidents lived on for many years after their presidency. This was an oversight on my part.
A lot of the people you mentioned didn't wear glasses. Unless the glasses aren't part of the illusion? What about other clothing? These are questions that need to be answered to keep the suspension of disbelief.
I've answered the glasses part with this line here:
While SCP-3782 cannot be seen when active, it is still possible for it to be removed by normal means.
I had assumed that I didn't need to the clothing aspect to be totally covered (excuse the unintentional pun) here, but I see where that might be important.
There's a lot of unexplained things in here, and the basic effect doesn't really make sense. Also, how are they covering up all of these deaths? Only Nixon gets any description of their death; teddy could have died from the original gunshot, I suppose, but what about Reagan?
I had rewritten the description a lot of times, because I had issues with the initial description. If I added too much, it became overcomplicated and people were confused. When I have too little, I get that there isn't enough of the effect. I thought that this here was enough, but it might be something I need to revisit.
Nixon is an in-universe answer, as his was unnatural. Teddy and Reagan both had attempted assassinations but had survived them both. Teddy from the Bull Moose speech, Reagan from being shot by John Hinckley Jr. in 1981. The other two I made up. Coolidge never had an attempt on his life, whereas Truman never committed suicide. I guess I can remove Coolidge, but I feel like the Truman one is an easy cover-up.
Why is the foundation allowing this to happen with an object. Why would the Foundation even care about non-anomalous deaths of a political figure? Why would they ever let this object be used so blatantly?
I don't think the Foundation allows these to happen, just that they discovered it so late. I don't think they care so much about the deaths as much as they care about how it was used or how the effects get imprinted.
My other major question is where did these come from? Why did Roosevelt even have them?
I didn't think this was particularly important, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about it at all. I don't know if this is a gap that I want to fill or if I want to let people fill it in with their own idea of why Teddy has these. I honestly don't have a satisfactory answer for you here.
Thank you for your time in responding to my article.
My problems with this are primarily logistical and best summarized by this photograph from 1991, which I found after about one minute of googling.
can I get some nice "no signatures on my forum"
sigma-9 css machine broke broke
understandable have a nice day
I'm feeling like there was some potential wasted with this. The main idea is intriguing enough, i especially like that it's mostly a "mundane" conspiracy with non-anomalous participants that just happen to possess an anomaly they can use.
However, there are quite a few plot hick-ups on this. DrMagnus summed it up quite nicely over a year ago, but there are two other things i wish to mention:
I still like the idea and execution good enough to stay at a neutral vote.
