Of all the creepy things I've observed during my time here, this is one of the worst.
I were bored, so I shopped up an image for this one. I know I kinda cheated by putting the spines on the legs, but putting them on the body just made it look hairy.
Seconded, and I think this is one of those entries that shouldn't have a picture. The mental image that I got of it the first time I read this one was something that you'd have to borrow the effects guys from the Alien movies for if you wanted to reach the same level of otherworldly creepy.
Looks too much like a 2D collage. Get it out of here.
Sorry Far2, gotta agree with the new bloods.

Oh, god. I'd forgotten about this one. Creepy as all get-out.
WHAT!? WHY IS THIS UP FOR DELETION!?
Don't ever EVER get rid of this, this is so amazing I might Die of a broken heart if you get rid of it. Just don't.
Uh…with a +24 rating, it *isn't* up for deletion. It's one of the most popular articles on the site. I think you may be misinterpreting what was said earlier..much earlier…which was about a picture somebody did of 058.
it's up for discussion, if you keep track of the forums,a nd the new mass edit.

Just to clarify a bit for the folks not keeping score:
- Edit and Review does NOT mean deletion. It means edit and review. Some items are brought up not because of a lack of quality, but just because they may warrant additional attention. Just because a item appears on the review list does not mean it's going away.
- Votes do not, in any way, guarantee safety. I know a good amount of people who feel the "Alone in the Dark" film is very good, and better then the games. It may sound a bit heavy-handed, but we, the administrative staff, know the SCP, and know what is good and not so good for the series as a whole. That being said, most decisions will be in line with the votes, however it is not a set-in-stone rule.
Please feel free to drop by the mass edit announcement and policy posts and see how we are doing this, and please feel free to voice any opinions.
This guy is one of my personal favorites, but I still think he could do with a touch-up. He just seems to be so extreme that by the end of the article the sense of dread is kind of cheapened.
I'd like to hear thoughts on this position.
I think I'd like to remove the interview, personally. It seems… dunno… unfitting. Or modify it.
Awwww, now it's ruined. ;( Now it's nothing more than yet another generic monster that kills people. Its Nietzschean monologues and peculiar invulnerability lent it an unique feeling.

I am reverting this. Now. It's not the insane talking that needs to go…it just needs to be made a little more dry. Maybe some heartless clinical notes on the end, just to bring the tempo down. I'll try that, and see if it's any good.
But still, no need to totally trash the insanity.
Well, we can put back in the insane babbling then. I just made it more clinical, then took out the insane babble. *Shrug* I was just trying to help.
I understand, and while i appreciate the enthusiasm, I think it's best to ask around a bit before diving in on some of the older/highly voted entries.
I've attempted to make a few edits as well, that I hope help bring down the rather excited tone, while still keeping it interesting and creepy. Let me know if they stink, and I'll revert.
Great job, Gears! The new version I like. :)
Given that your attempt to help removed the one good part of the article, I think this suggests a logical course of action. (I'm saying to stop trying to help.)
Gears, I'm not sure I like your recent addition at the bottom. I think this item works very well as a violent, creepy, entirely physical murderer. The introduction of a vague exposure hazard (implications of violent insanity?) draw it a bit too close to the manifold memetic/psychohazards on the site, as well as those SCPs which, it is implied, are slowly and irreversibly eroding their containment. Some things, I think, are better off safely contained.
sometimes a heart with striking tentacles is all it needs to be
Hey, well, I just made a few changes to this article myself. I tried to tone things down to what I thought were more appropriate levels, though I commentary about the capabilities of its mobility, which had been previously lacking. I also tried to keep inject it with a little sciencey-ness.
Anyway, I'd welcome some input, especially if you didn't like the changes.
The changes didn't essentially alter the nature of what 058 is, either thematically or intrinsically. What they did do was tighten up and definite improve the scientific language of the article. Considering the nature of the site and the horror we're working here, any article that improves it's scientific or objective tone is step forward.
I have to agree, the additional science has really helped tighten the pace and tone. Also, i think i may embrace Unimport's comment and toss the last bit. I just felt that a little more dry tone was needed after the rather exciting log file, but i may have overshot.
After I first read this article, I wasn't terribly impressed. "Ooh, a killing machine. Scary. Honest." But after thinking about this for a while, I have reversed my opinion. The description sticks in my mind, and the nonsensical British ramblings turn this from a bland monster from a SyFy original movie into a eerie beast. It doesn't make sense on several levels, and to me, that's what makes it work. Also, it sounds clinical enough to me.
I like the new picture! It's blurry and vague, allowing the viewer to fill in some details. Nice find!
I love the new image. The idea that this blury clippet of footage was all we were able to capture is terrifying.
Personally, I think the photo is too vague. I cannot make head or tail of this picture. For me, it looks like just a bunch of abstract blots.
Nor I; as was mentioned back when that other picture was put up, I think this particular SCP works best without a static image. For me at least, the mental image I have of this thing is horrifying enough.
from the "Notes":
SCP-058 was finally contained after being crushed and incapacitated by a large amount of masonry from a building that had collapsed on top of it.
That's what's going on in the picture, I think. The idea being that that was the only time it was nonlethal enough to even attempt a photograph. Which I personally find horrifying.
That's another toss-in for the negative, but I think a scene of carnage with something along the lines of "aftermath of SCP-058 rampage" would be better, if not a tad too gory.
(Haven't really seen any blood-and-guts pictures here, anyway.)
As I understand it, gore is generally frowned upon. I personally think it's best if we keep the site as safe-for-work looking as possible. Nothing you'd not see in, say, a newspaper.
Hmm… I guess you're right, it's usually creepier to describe the killings and blood, anyway. (When it's handled by a non-crappy writer.)
Anyway, maybe a much clearer scene of carnage, then? Maybe the wreckage of a town to show just how powerful it is (claim it's the town from the initial recovery).
Except for the mouth, this seems to match the description of SCP-058 quite closely:
…I'm going to guess that's a screen from the first Resistance game.
That's a Widowmaker, if I remember.
Anyways, I love the audio log. I don't know why but it sounds familiar…was this actually in something? My mind jumps to Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" on account of the name, or Apocalypse Now, but it could be something else, or it might just be me.
Yeah, I definitely see flashes of Conrad, but I see more Lovecraft in it.
Good lord, the first thing that popped into my head was "so this is what the first few seconds of a ZK-class Reality Failure event would look like"
